GPT-4 Will Make You Obsolete – 5 Things That Make GPT-4 Insanely Powerful
It’s only been three months in 2023, and we’ve already seen many changes in the AI world. The most notable one, however, is the announcement of GPT-4.
AI tools have become an essential part of our daily lives. AI is being used in everything from software development to marketing.
Developers can use Github’s Co-pilot to assist them in writing code. Co-pilot has helped me write a lot less code by myself. It understands my codebase and suggests snippets when necessary.
Similarly, we can use ChatGPT for marketing tasks such as writing social media posts, MidJourney for generating unique images, and the list goes on.
I can write a 2000-word article describing various AI platforms and still not cover all of them.
The point is the impact of these tools on our daily life.
As the power of AI is increasing day by day, it’ll soon become capable enough to replace many of the jobs in the industry.
GPT-4, with its insane amount of power, has put a big concern on everyone’s mind, i.e.,
Will AI make you obsolete?
Let’s discuss these AI platforms and Models to understand the insane amount of engineering behind the scenes and find the answer to our question.
What is GPT-4?
GPT-4 is the latest version of OpenAI’s GPT language model. GPT stands for Generative Pre-trained Transformer. It is a group of language models used to generate text-based data.
GPTs gained popularity following the release of ChatGPT, OpenAI’s text-based chatbot. ChatGPT uses GPT-3.5, a fine-tuned version of the GPT-3 AI model.
It recognizes human prompts and generates text-based responses to them. Not only that, but it can remember previous prompts or context and generate results while keeping previous inputs in mind.
Behind this incredible technology is an insane amount of engineering and data.
These models have been pre-trained on a large number of parameters, allowing them to understand prompts and produce unique results based on their knowledge base.
GPT-4 v/s GPT-3.5 v/s GPT-3
These three AI models – GPT-3, GPT-3.5, and GPT-4 – are variants of the GPT AI family. Improvements were made to the previous version over time, resulting in increased capabilities with each new version.
GPT-3
GPT-3 gained attention upon the arrival of ChatGPT. It is trained on 175 billion parameters and is capable of understanding, and responding to human prompts very effectively. It can write code, create original articles, respond to your questions, and much more. You can be as creative as you want with it and make the most of it.
GPT-3.5
GPT-3.5 is a more refined version of GPT-3. It’s a general-purpose AI chatbot that uses a technique called “Reinforcement Learning with Human Feedback” to improve its outputs. It is also referred to it as InstructGPT in most places.
Despite being trained on the same 175 billion parameters, GPT-3.5 performs better at understanding prompts and responding in a more human-like manner.
GPT-4
GPT-4 is the most recent version of the GPT family of AI models. It has been trained on 1 trillion parameters and is said to be 10 times more powerful than its predecessor GPT-3.5.
According to OpenAI, during a normal conversation, you may not notice any difference between GPT-4 and GPT-3.5. The distinction, however, is significant. GPT-4 is better at handling large amounts of data (or prompts), more creative, more human-like, and more reliable overall.
OpenAI tested GPT-4 in a variety of publicly available human-level exams to demonstrate the difference. Here are the outcomes.
GPT-4 outperformed GPT-3.5 in all tests which is amazing. The results clearly demonstrate GPT-4’s power.
All GPT-4 benchmarks are available on the OpenAI’s research page for GPT-4.
Why is GPT-4 so powerful?
According to reports, GPT-4 is approximately ten times more powerful than GPT-3.5. It is more reliable in terms of reasoning, problem-solving, and accuracy.
Although OpenAI did not provide an estimate for the number of parameters in GPT-4, it will undoubtedly be more than GPT-3/GPT3.5.
Anyhow, it is not only a model’s parameters that determine its power, but also its various features and capabilities.
Let’s take a look at the new features of GPT-4 and how it overpowers its predecessors GPT-3.5/GPT-3
Better Language Processing
GPT-4 understands and processes natural language better, resulting in more human-like output. It can recognize the emotion in the prompt and respond appropriately.
Also, It is compatible with a wide range of cultural and regional language variations. It understands the distinct vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation that many languages have. GPT-4, according to OpenAI, supports approximately 26 different languages from around the world.
Extensive Word Limit
GPT-4 can handle massive amounts of data. GPT-3.5 could handle a maximum of 4096 tokes, which is roughly equivalent to 3000 words. GPT-4, on the other hand, has a token limit of 32,000 tokens, which is roughly 25000 words, which is insane.
It can now accept long-form content and produce more accurate results. For example, consider summarising Wikipedia articles. You can give GPT-4 the entire article and it will generate an accurate summary without any problems.
Image Recognition
GPT-4, unlike its predecessor GPT-3.5, can understand images and graphics. It can analyze the image and its features, as well as answer questions about it.
Moreover, we can use it for various tasks, and the most talked about is the generation of code using a layout image as an input. OpenAI showcased that GPT-4 can generate functional HTML, and CSS code, given the website layout.
Unfortunately, it cannot generate images right now, but in future versions, we may see it generating images also.
Different Personalities
OpenAI has been working on changing the AI’s overall behavior by instructing it to act like some different personality. This concept is known as steerability.
As a result, rather than having a fixed tone and style for the AI, developers can now instruct the AI to act in a certain way using system messages.
In their blog post, OpenAI demonstrated how you can direct the AI to a different persona, such as here, the AI is behaving like a Socratic tutor.
Here’s a funny one: I told GPT-4 (on ChatGPT Plus) to act as Elon Musk and respond in the most savage way possible.
I then asked it, “What is 2+2?”. Here’s the response:
It is worth noting that with Steerability options, it is quite possible to jailbreak GPT-4 and have it not follow the rules of disallowed or sensitive content.
OpenAI is working on making them more secure, so you might improvements in future upgrades.
Less Inappropriate Responses
People have criticized GPT-3.5 for generating responses for offensive, political, and overall inappropriate or harmful prompts. OpenAI worked on the problem and tuned GPT-4 so as reduce the risk of generating inappropriate responses by around 82% as compared to GPT-3.5.
Here’s an OpenAI graph depicting the rate of incorrect behavior on prohibited and sensitive content.
Will GPT-4 make you obsolete?
With the rise of AI and the release of tools such as GPT-4, people are concerned that AI will take their jobs in the near future.
This statement is not entirely correct. We must consider many factors before making this statement. Despite its immense power, AI is still incapable of matching human intelligence. Furthermore, AI’s knowledge is limited; it cannot generate new ideas.
For example, in fields such as software engineering, where a single bug in any piece of code can cause significant harm, we cannot rely on code written by an AI-based system mindlessly.
Therefore, AI replacing humans in the near future is extremely unlikely. This is true for the majority of jobs. However, AI may have an impact on jobs such as chat/call support, copywriting, data entry, and so on. And it has already started; many businesses now prefer AI-powered chat support to human support.
The best way to deal with this situation is to expand our skill sets in various domains and try new things. Remember that AI is improving all the time, and if you don’t improve, you’ll be replaced.
We should not fight AI but instead, get used to it and adopt it as we would any other technological advancement.
A person who tries to fight AI may become obsolete, but not one who adapts to it and uses it to improve their skill set.
Let’s look at how you can get access to GPT-4 and experience its insane capabilities.
How to use GPT-4 right now?
GPT-4 is not accessible to everyone. To use GPT-4, you must either have API access or be a ChatGPT Plus user. You can only use GPT-4 with a cap limit, even with ChatGPT Plus.
There are other methods you can use to access GPT-4 and explore its amazing features. Let’s go over some of them now.
Access GPT-4 using the API
GPT-4 API is currently on a waitlist. You can join the waitlist and, once approved, use the API or integrate it into your application.
However, this method may be more expensive than the others. But, if your goal is to integrate GPT-4 into your application, the only official way is to use the API.
To access the GPT-4 API, go to the GPT-4 API Waitlist page, fill out the form, and wait for your turn to try out the API 😉
Access GPT-4 using ChatGPT Plus

To proceed to the checkout page, click the “Upgrade Plan” button. After you complete the payment, ChatGPT Plus will be activated and you will be able to enjoy GPT-4.
Access GPT-4 using Bing
GPT-4 is available on the beta release of Bing. It uses GPT-4 for the Bing Chatbot. Now, instead of redirecting to external websites, Bing can use GPT-4 to generate its own answers using the user query.
It is currently on a waitlist, but according to recent reports, users got immediate access as soon as they sign up for a waitlist. As a result, you might assume it’s open to everyone.
Go to the Microsoft Bing page and click the “Join the Waitlist” button to join the waitlist.
You may be prompted to log in to your Microsoft account. If you do not already have a Microsoft account, you must create one before you can join the waitlist.
You will be added to the waitlist after logging in. So sit back and wait for your turn!
